Andre Buret
KYOSHI, 6TH DAN (AT LARGE)
Sensei Buret began his martial arts training in Calgary in 1984 under Senseis Rick Rowel and David Akutagawa, from whom he received his Shodan in 1991. He later was awarded his yondan rank by Yasuhiro Chitose Sensei and Higashi Sensei, and then godan by Higashi Sensei. In 2016 he earned his Renshi title from Higashi Sensei. Since then he travelled extensively pursuing his academic career and has had the honour of competing in two Soke Cup World Championships – once for Australia and once for Canada.
Sensei Buret began his academic career in Switzerland with a Physical Education Certificate and a Teaching Diploma before moving to Canada to complete a PhD. He is now a professor of Zoology and Microbiology at the University of Calgary and is actively involved in several Biotechnology companies.
Sensei Buret also has NCCP coaching and official certifications. He was assistant coach for the Karate Alberta team at the 2007 and 2008 Canadian Nationals.
In 2009, Sensei Buret became Vice-President for the Canadian Chito Ryu Karate Association, lead by Hanshi Higashi. He served in that role until November 2019, when he became President of the Canadian and World Chito Ryu Karate Associations, lead by Hanshi Higashi
Sensei Buret was awarded the 2012 Honoured Athletic Leadership Award by the City of Calgary Booster Club.
